Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Chaos Theory Review

This week on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the team was running in every direction trying to capture Lash. After last episode's revelation that Andrew is Lash, we got the backstory for how it happened. Andrew was in possession of a ledger from Jiaying (head of the Inhuman colony in season 2) that had all the names of the Inhumans she had contact with, but she booby trapped it with dust from the obelisk, so those without Inhuman powers would be killed. For Andrew, it just awoke a dormant gene, turning him into Lash. At this point, I’m getting a little confused about Inhuman powers. What range do they have? What determines what kind of powers they will have? Is there any limit? Usually on supernatural shows they clearly outline what is and isn’t in the realm of possibility, but with the Inhumans, their powers could be anything, plus they morph and change over time. It’s very confusing. MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Chaos Theory" - As Daisy and the team fight to protect Inhumans, S.H.I.E.L.D. discovers the shocking truth about one of their biggest foes. Meanwhile, Fitz helps Simmons recover information that could lead them back through the portal, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Eric McCandless) MATTHEW WILLIG Throughout this episode everyone gradually found out about Andrew's secret identity. I’m really glad they did that right away, instead of drawing the secret out even further. It was also interesting to finally get Andrew’s side of the story. I had assumed that he just didn’t have any control over his transformation, but that appears to only be partially true. Anger makes him “lash out”, but he still thinks he is in charge of picking off the “bad” Inhumans. This is also slightly concerning. How does he know? Every new Inhuman hurts people, but what makes them good/bad? This episode also gave us an up close look at Lash’s transformation multiple times and I gotta say it’s pretty impressive as far as special effects go. He also reminds me a lot of the Hulk: anger issues, constantly ripping shirts off and he even has a greenish tinge. Maybe they are related? Maybe the Hulk can guest star and teach him how to control his anger. Now that’s a crossover waiting to happen. (ABC/Byron Cohen) POWERS BOOTHE Throughout the hunting of Lash, there were a few intimate moments. That’s right, we’re talking about Rosalind and Coulson. Do they have an official ship name yet? Coulind? Rosson? Hmmm those need work. Anyway, they share a very cute moment where Rosalind helped Coulson put on his tie and he told her about his phantom hand. It was really quite adorable, but we all know every relationship on this show comes at a cost. Even their little sleepover ended with a surprise, Rosalind has been communicating with Ward’s new friend, Gideon Malick, who literally just said he wants to take out Coulson. Can we get one happy relationship on this show, please? I’m begging. Speaking of cursed relationships, there were a few emotional Fitz/Simmons scenes this episode. In an attempt to learn more about the planet, Fitz uncovered files from Simmons' phone. He found a sweet video of Simmons talking about the first time they met and how much he means to her, but he also found a picture of her and Will. What a roller coaster of emotions. The girl he loves talked about loving him back and then she fell in love with an astronaut on a foreign planet. Don’t you hate when that happens? There was also a brief moment this episode where I really thought they were going to kiss as they watched the sunrise. It would have been perfect, but nope. They just stared longingly at the sun. (ABC/Eric McCandless) CONSTANCE ZIMMER, CLARK GREGG, CHLOE BENNET Another great scene from this episode was the one between Rosalind and Daisy. They debated who is treating the Inhumans more humanely, ATCU or SHIELD. Rosalind made some great points. For example, there are enough scary people out there without insanely powerful abilities and that for every Inhuman like Daisy, there is one like Lash. Daisy, however won the argument later by literally saving Rosalind’s life with her powers. I’m guessing some method halfway between the two will be a viable solution. Final Thoughts: Overall this was a good episode, but it wasn’t great. It was basically a much needed storyline dedicated to capturing Andrew/Lash and everyone dealing with a SHIELD agent becoming a monster. It inches the overall season forward, which is good. Plus all the little relationship scenes helped. I really wanted to trust Rosalind, but now we know she’s working with the bad guys. We truly can’t trust anyone anymore. I can’t wait to see what happens with that next week. I kind of like how secrets don’t last long on this show. There’s no, “he doesn’t know that she knows that we know." It’s much more to the point, proving that the SHIELD team is full of smart agents who catch on quickly.
