Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Devils You Know Review

This week on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. there was a good balance of relationship updates and action sequences, plus the whole team was there! Let’s take a look at what went down on episode 3.4, "Devils You Know." The main theme of this episode was teamwork and how it doesn’t always come easy. This was most clearly seen through the rocky partnership between S.H.I.E.L.D. and ATCU (Advanced Threat Containment Unit). They were both trying to locate Inhumans, but they disagree about what to do with them. Daisy was very wary of them, even though Coulson thought working together was their only option. I only agree with Coulsov's reasoning because this partnership is giving us even more Coulson/Price scenes. I would rather see them battle with words than fists, although I do want to know what Coulson’s new hand is capable of. Is there really a laser in his finger? I also think I may have started picking up on some sexual tension between the pair? Is it just me? Anyway, I’m looking forward to see how this partnership plays out. MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Devils You Know" - Having reluctantly agreed to share information with Rosalind and the ATCU, Coulson and the team go in search for the Inhuman who is killing off other Inhumans, and May feels that Hunter's mission to take down Ward is getting too personal, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Kelsey McNeal) CONSTANCE ZIMMER, ANDREW HOWARD, CHLOE BENNET, CLARK GREGG, HENRY SIMMONS Another relationship that has developed is the one between Mack and Daisy. They seem to be inseparable and always have each other’s back, which is nice to see. I’ve been feeling bad for Mack though. He is always there for everyone else to lean on, but what do we really know about him? I am now hoping for a Mack backstory episode. It seems like every S.H.I.E.L.D. agent as an interesting one. I am also really enjoying the little moments we get between Bobbi and Simmons. They have, in a sense, taken on each other's roles from previous seasons. Bobbi is now stuck in the lab, while Simmons was off on adventure, not by choice, but still. While she might not have exactly been kicking ass, she managed to survive on a strange planet on her own for months. She has some serious skills to pull that off. I think they have discovered that they have more in common than they thought. I was still kind of bummed that all they really talked about this episode was Fitz. I was hoping Simmons would tell Bobbi more about why she needs to go back. Still, I’m loving this bond between them. Another duo on a mission this week was May and Hunter. They are still trying to track down Ward, but of course they walked right into a trap. I’m not really sure how they expected this scenario to work in their favor. It was, however, nice to see Ward, Hunter and May in a room together again, especially with Ward as the new director of Hydra. Even though Ward walked away from the fray, Hunter managed to shoot him in the back (fitting). Hunter’s actions also might have gotten Andrew killed, which means the May/Hunter duo might be no more. Is it bad that I don’t really care about Andrew? I mean he’s nice enough, but he’s also pretty blah. (ABC/Justin Lubin) HENRY SIMMONS, CHLOE BENNET, CONSTANCE ZIMMER, CLARK GREGG Onto my favorite pair, Fitz and Simmons. Jemma is still struggling to talk about her experience through the portal. The only person she remotely opens up to is Bobbi, which crushed Fitz. He’s been doing everything he can to be available for her and she just shuts him down, but then finally, at the end, Simmons confesses that she has to go back. I don’t know why that was so difficult for her to do. Fitz would obviously do anything for her, so she should trust him by now. I seriously can’t get over how awesome Fitz is this season. He even managed to throw some shade at Bobbi this episode with the stinging line, “It’s tough when people keep things from you." You go, Fitz! Final Thoughts: This episode was pretty well-balanced with emotional scenes and action scenes. It seemed like everyone was having a much needed heart-to-heart or fist-to-fist. It left so many questions, that I can’t wait for next week’s episode. I am mostly curious to learn Lash’s mysterious human identity and about Simmons’s time stranded on that planet. According to the previews, we’ll get the answer to that second concern next week with a Simmons focused episode, which looks amazing. I hope we learn why she so desperately needs to go back. I’m also kind of concerned with how rapidly the Inhumans are dying. Every time a new Inhuman character is introduced, I know I can’t get attached, because it won’t end well. I was so hopefully for the couple introduced in this episode too. Finally Inhumans who were more accustomed to their lives with special powers and then 10 minutes later, they were already gone. I hope there are more compelling Inhuman characters to come this season. The title of this episode also brought up an interesting point. Is the devil we know (Ward), better than the devil we don't (Lash)?
