Alex Garland talks about ’28 Months Later’

Writer Alex Garland has made his directional debut with the sci-fi Ex Machina and is currently on the press circuit promoting it. When speaking to Chris Tilley from IGN has given an update on the status of the second sequel of the 28 Day Later series. Garland told Tilley at IGN's London office:
“We’ve just started talking about it seriously. We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility. It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years. 28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss.” 28 days later zombie
28 Days Later... came out in 2002 in the UK and 2003 in the USA and become an instant cult hit, popularizing 'fast' zombies and helping make the zombie subgenre mainstream. It was directed by Danny Boyle and written by Garland. The sequel 28 Weeks Later was also popular with Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo taking over the directing duties. For the next movie Boyle and Garland will continue as executive producers but will properly pass on the directing and writer duties again. There has been talk about a third movie for years. Back in 2007 Boyle told MTV "There is an idea for the next one, something which would move the story on. I've got to think about it, whether it's right or not." and when speaking to Wired in 2013 Boyle said the chances of a sequel was 40/60. Ex Machina  is set to hit theaters on January 21 in the UK and April 10 in the USA.
