TVLand has cast Alyson Hannigan and Megan Hilty in its pilot of the First Wives Club, according to Variety.
The original film came out in 1996, and starred Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton. The original film followed three women who knew each other in their younger days and reconnect after a mutual friend from college dies in a freak accident.
The TVLand reboot will have the same storyline with Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) playing Maggie, a woman struggling with her marriage and her career. When her friend dies, she pledges to make a change, divorce her husband, and start a new path.
Hilty (SMASH) will play Kim (a role based on Hawn’s from the film), a once successful actress, but has since had trouble finding work that isn’t commercials. She is still hoping for a breakout role, and she is divorced with an eight-year-old son when she meets up with her old friends.
First Wives Club is from Paramount TV and is written by Rebecca Addelman and exec produced by Jenny Bicks and Karen Rosenfelt.
With this casting news the series should be looking at a full series order.
