Andy Griffith Passes Away At Age 86

The American comic and actor Andy Griffith, best known for The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock, passed away at his home in Manteo, North Carolina, yesterday morning. He was 86 years of age.

Born in North Carolina, he was most well known for his portrayal of Sherriff Andy Taylor for more than eight years in the sixties, and The Andy Griffith Show‘s characters were so popular that it spawned several spinoffs. After that, he is also well known for playing the title character of legal drama Matlock. A lifelong friend of Ron Howard, his body was buried swiftly after his death on his ranch as per his wishes. Cause of death is unknown, but is thought to be an unspecified illness.

A multi-talented actor, comic, writer and even singer, he recieved the highest possible civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in 2005.
