Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper join “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”

UPDATE: Shortly after Latino Review reported Robin McLeavy would be playing Mary Todd, The Hollywood Reporter is now stating the role has gone to Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim versus the World, Live Free or Die Hard). Score one for awesome.

Timur Bekmambetov’s (Wanted) upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, adapted from Seth Grahme-Smith’s novel of the same name, is shaping up to be a showcase for a number of no-name up-and-comers in Hollywood today. With the title role going to Benjamin Walker (Kinsey, Flags of our Fathers), Deadline is reporting that Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) and Dominic Cooper (An Education) are joining the cast, while Latino Review has it that Robin McLeavy (The Loved Ones) has also joined the production.

“Vampire Hunter” will focus on Lincoln’s earlier days systematically hunting vampires at night, searching for the suspected vamp that killed his mother. Mackie is set to play Will, Lincoln’s best friend who gets in on the slaying action, while Cooper is negotiating to play Henry Sturgess, a vampire who takes Lincoln under his wing and teaches him how to track and kill other vampires. McLeavy is the first female role cast and arguably the most important as Mary Todd, Lincoln’s love interest and future wife.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is also being produced by Tim Burton. It is scheduled for a release on June 22, 2012.
