Battlestar Galactica Online Already Proving Successful With Over 5 Million Players

There's a lot of doubt surrounding the upcoming (and currently in beta) browser-based MMO Battlestar Galactica Online, but it looks like it's already gaining quite a playerbase with a reported 5 million players registered since the game went into open beta in February this year.

For those who haven't heard of it before now, Battlestar Galactica Online is the browser based MMORPG based on the popular sci-fi series. In the free-to-play game, players take control of either a Colonial Viper or a Cylon Raider and explore the universe that the show is set in. Players are able to experience strategic and tactical space combat as well as command a number of ships, each with different customization and upgrade options.

When developer, Bigpoint announced this news recently they also stated that the game is getting around a 25,000 new players each day. That's huge for any MMO, let alone one that's still in beta. It'll be interesting to see if the games popularity continues to grow once it leaves beta and officially launches.

Personally, I think that Battlestar Galactica Online looks pretty damn great considering it's a free to play browser MMO. The epic 3D engine and impressive integration with the popular franchise seems really cool to me and I might give it a go at some point.
