Turn off the Lights

The Best PC Exclusives from E3 2014

Among a sea of multi-platform releases at this year's E3 I take a look at some of the exciting PC releases we can expect to be playing this year.

H1Z1
Although not totally exclusive (A PS4 release is expected somewhere in the future) The game zombie survival game from Sony is due an alpha release on steam any time soon. H1Z1 is an upcoming MMO in the stylings of DayZ. It is a zombie survival thriller set in the United States, in which players will have to interact with resources in the world to survive, build shelters and craft weapons. It will be free to play but have downloadable extras through micro-transactions. There has been a load of hype about this game being a DayZ beater and only time will tell if it will take place at the top of the throne in the MMO zombie survival genre.

Civilization: Beyond Earth
Civilization: Beyond Earth is a turn-based strategy game played on a hexagonal-based grid and is the 6th game in the Civilization series. Co-lead designer David McDonough described the relationship between the previous Civilization and Beyond Earth as the two games as "The bones of the experience are very much recognizably Civ. The idea of the cities, city-base progression, leaders, the passage of time, tile-based, turn-based, building improvements, technologies. A lot of them are very familiar themes to the Civ player." The demo as seen above looks extremely promising and this will no doubt be one of the biggest games in 2k Games' history.

The Sims 4
Although already announced before E3, EA gave us a deeper look into the game and gave us a full proof release date of September 2, 2014. The Sims 4 has the same concept as it's predecessor The Sims 3. Players control their Sims in various activities and form relationships. The game, like the rest of the series, does not have a defined final goal; gameplay is nonlinear. The Create a Sim and Build Mode tools have been redesigned to allow more versatility when creating game content. Emotional state plays a larger role in gameplay than in previous games in the series, with effects on social interaction, user interface, and personality. Additional game footage and the release date were revealed at E3 and can be seen above.

Dawngate
Dawngate enters the fray with EA attempting to dabble in the MOBA world. The trailer was announced at E3 (See above) and brings exciting and new ideas to the genre. It will be a free to play which is likely to be supported by micro transactions (As found in most other MOBAs) The closed beta testing period began on May 24, 2013 with the open beta being released on May 19, 2014. The announcers didn't share an exact release date but the fact the new trailer was shown off at EA must mean that a full release is on the horizon.
Overall I wasn't amazingly impressed by the PC exclusives this year at E3 and although the multi-platform titles stole the show, I feel that Nintendo had the best selection overall. I will definitely pickup Dawngate of full release and H1z1 is a certainty to be reviewed and covered by me (being a big fan of DayZ and all), but the other PC exclusives didn't cut the grade with me and compared to the multi-platform games, I felt fell a long way short this year. Hopefully next year the PC will get a little more attention as I still believe PC gaming is the elite form of gaming. What do you guys think? are there any titles you were glad made it to E3 or any you will definitely be getting?
