Blizzard DOTA Shown Off At Blizzcon

Blizzard have announced details on their entry in the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena market with Blizzard Defense of the Ancients, and the major changes it will be bringing to classic DOTA gameplay. You can check out the trailer below:

Blizzard DOTA was first announced last year as part of a slew of cool custom maps that Blizzard were producing in order to inspire the Starcraft 2 modding community but ended up being indefinitely delayed. Blizzard DOTA takes the MOBA gameplay of games like Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends and throws in an all-star cast of characters from Blizzard games.

At last weekend's Blizzcon, they showed the game in action and announced that not only was it going to be making some huge changes to classic DOTA gameplay but also that the custom map forStarcraft 2 will be available to players with the Starter Edition, which means that Blizzard DOTA will effectively be free to play.

The changes that Blizzard are making sound interesting and will be sure to stir up some discussion amongst the MOBA community. Blizzard are planning to remove the ability to gain experience from killing creeps and add in a mount system to the game. Towers are also a lot weaker than they are in other MOBA games and also have limited ammo.

Blizzard look to be going directly after League of Legends, DOTA 2 and Heroes of Newerth withBlizzard DOTA and it will be interesting to see if they succeed.
