Bobby Cannavale In Talks to Star in Rock ‘N’ Roll Drama on HBO

Bobby Cannavale is in talks to star in a rock and roll TV series that will air on HBO. The show was created by Martin Scorsese, Terrence Winter, and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. Scorsese and Winter, who are both executive producers on the HBO drama Boardalk Empire, have taken notice of the the talent of Cannavale during the third season of the show, and have selected him for their next project, which is still untitled. The series has not been green-lighted yet, but audiences can expect for filming to begin early in 2014, with Scorsese directing the pilot that was written by Winter. This project was created after Jagger and Scorsese worked on the Rolling Stones' documentary Shine A Light together and Jagger mentioned that he was interested in making a movie like Casino, but based on the music industry.

This untitled project will follow the life of Richie, a cocaine-fueled record executive in New York City, circa 1977, when punk, disco and a rising musical genre called hip-hop collided. He is elevated to a high status when he ends up running a major label, although what he really cares about are the day-to-day inner workings of the music industry. Since Winter will continue as a writer for Boardwalk Empire, Scorcese is working on building a staff of writers for the show. Bobby Cannavale, an Emmy Winner previously seen on Boardwalk Empire, and Nurse Jackie before that, is currently starring on Broadway in Clifford Odets' The Big Knife.
