Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time Will End in 2018

"All Adventure Times Must Come to an End "

The hit animated series Adventure Time will end in 2018, Cartoon Network has announced this week. The series, created by Pendleton Ward, will end in two years after nine seasons and 71 hours of programming.

Adventure Time debuted on Cartoon Network in 2010, and follows the adventures of best friends Finn the Human (Jeremy Shada) and Jake the Dog (John DiMaggio) in the magical Land of Ooo. The series was inspired by the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons and from various adventure-themed video games. The show achieves its unique look through hand-drawn animation and the story boarding of each episode.

Adventure Time is highly acclaimed and has won a Peabody Award, six Emmys, and two BAFTAs during its six-year run. The show’s popularity has led to multimedia expansion including a clothing line, toys, video games, and a comic book series. As of October 15, 2015, a feature film version is also thought to be in the development stage.

Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories” explained series creator Pendleton Ward. “We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”

Adventure Time changed the definition of what a kids’ TV series could be, and it’s had a resounding impact upon popular culture around the world,” said Rob Sorcher, Chief Content Officer for Cartoon Network. “Cartoon Network Studios is proud to have brought together this group of brilliant artists and animators who helped make Adventure Time one of the most critically acclaimed TV series of a generation.”

Executive produced by Adam Muto and produced by Cartoon Network Studios, the ninth and final season of Adventure Time is currently in production. New Adventure Time content will continue to air on Cartoon Network over the next two years, including specials, miniseries, and the ninth and final season in 2018.
