Complete List of Spike VGAs Reveals

The dust has finally settled from the Spike TV VGAs 2010, and the massive awards ceremony has left a number of exclusive reveals in its wake. While some, like Uncharted 3 and Prototype 2, were sneakily revealed before the show, others, such as Guillermo del Toro's inSane, were totally unexpected. Below is a complete listing of each PS3 game revealed at the VGAs and as much info as we have been able to gather on each of them.

  • Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception: As we revealed a few days before the VGAs, Nathan Drake's newest adventure will take him to the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula and beyond. Partnered primarily with fan-favorite Sully, Drake will traverse flooding buildings, sandy dunes, and more. Newly revealed gameplay from the extended trailer looks similar to what was seen in Uncharted 2, which is far from a bad thing. The subtitle, along with a solemn voiceover from Drake during the trailer, suggests that this entry might take a slightly darker or more personal tone.

  • Batman: Arkham City: An awesome CG trailer revealed Batman villain Doctor Hugo Strange's presence in Arkham City in a brutal and satisfying way. The doctor was shown using some sort of serum to torture a soldier for information. This was intercut with scenes of Batman brutally beating a squad of soldiers. Dialogue from Strange's exchange with the soldier suggests the further usage of Titan to enhance soldiers. While the trailer showed no actual gameplay, it got its point across clearly and concisely: This is going to be one hellish night for the Caped Crusader.

  • Resistance 3: The trailer for the long-awaited third entry in Sony's flagship Resistance series was an effective mixture of live action and gameplay. The trailer revealed a new environment in which players will be battling the Chimeran invasion: a ravaged boat. With the first trailer's focus on trains, and the second trailer's emphasis placed largely on the boat level, transportation seems to play a major role in the third Resistance game. This suggests that the crux of the story could be an intense journey from point A to point B, perhaps to deliver crucial information or something of the sort, a la Metro 2033. The end of the trailer, in which a man goes toe to toe with a Chimeran soldier wielding nothing but a sledgehammer, suggests that melee weapons could come into play during the game.

  • Thor: The VGAs marked the first public reveal of gameplay from Sega's Thor adaption. Although the game giant's last Marvel-movie-based games, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and The Hulk, all performed poorly, Thor's obvious homage to God of War could at least make for an entertaining weekend play.

  • Mortal Kombat: A brief trailer for the MK reboot revealed Kratos as a PS3-exclusive kombatant.  The restless Spartan will certainly be more at home amongst the bloodthirsty brawlers of the MK world than he was in PSP's Soulcalibur.

  • Mass Effect 3: The above image, released about a week or two ago by Bioware, was indeed from Mass Effect 3 as had been rumored. In yet another CG trailer, it was revealed that ME3 would focus on an all-out invasion of Earth. In the trailer, the sniper shown above is stationed in a decrepit building. Hearing children's laughter outside, he comes to attention and trains his rifle on the source of the noise. Two children are shown playing in the rubble of a once great city. The sniper fires into the fog, and a mysterious alien creature drops mere feet from the children. As the camera pans out, it is revealed that the sniper has taken up a position inside the crumbling face of Big Ben, London's famous clock tower. The camera zooms further out, showing massive ripples of flame engulf much of the Earth. From space, Commander Shepard watches in silent horror. As the screen fades to black, Mass Effect's signature techno soundtrack pumps through the speakers. Cue spinal chills. After the trailer was shown, it was revealed that ME3 would be the first game in the series to launch simultaneously on the 360, PS3, and PC in late 2011.
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Not much is known about this surprise reveal, as no gameplay was shown during the reveal. However, the CG trailer promised a return of the demons felled during Oblivion, and showed a stone dragon coming to life. This suggests a larger emphasis on dragons, like in Bioware's awesome Dragon Age, but we'll have to wait to hear further details.
  • Prototype 2: Although the reveal of Prototype 2 seemed imminent long before the VGAs aired (Activision once said they intended to make the game into a franchise,) the actual material contained in the trailer was surprising nonetheless. Instead of taking the role of Alex Mercer again, players will now step into the shoes of one of the nameless soldiers from the first game (only now, he will obviously be named.) The soldier, having seen his friends and family die around him at the hands of Mercer, infects himself with the virus in order to get revenge. Unfortunately there are no screenshots available for the game yet, but if the striking twist in the trailer is anything to go by, this will be one to watch.
  • inSane: Guillermo del Toro's collaboration with THQ has finally come into the light, but we still know next to nothing about the game. The debut trailer revealed nothing other than the game's proposed 2013 release date. THQ has, however, filed stated that it intends to make the game into a trilogy if the first is a success.

  • SSX: Deadly Descents: Last, but certainly not least, comes the reveal of a new game in EA's lauded SSX franchise. The game, which promises to be the world's first mixture of extreme sports and survival horror, focuses on a group of boarders who traverse the world's deadliest peaks, such as the Kagamara Range in the Himalayas shown above. Players will have to battle dwindling oxygen and sub-zero temperatures at dizzying hights in order to survive. Pulling off sick tricks still marks a mojor focus of the game, but survival is, of course, the number one priority.
