Darren Aronofsky No Longer Directing “The Wolverine”

When director Darren Aronofsky stepped on board to direct The Wolverine for 20th Century Fox, it was a bit of an odd development. Why was he directing a mainstream superhero film? Would his style create the film that the studio wanted? Would we see Uncle Hank?

Well, it looks like he’s leaving. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aronofsky has left the project, stating that “the project would keep him out of the country for too long.”

His exact words:

"As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of
The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won't be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again.”

Despite Aronofsky’s departure, Fox is still making the film, and Hugh Jackman is still on board to play Wolverine.

As much as I love Aronofsky, I don’t particularly mind this decision at all. Directing a film like “Wolverine” would likely mean a drastic change in his directing style, and that’s not the Aronofsky I personally want to see.

How do you feel about Darren Aronofsky leaving the helm of The Wolverine?
