Debut “The Martian” trailer strands Matt Damon on Mars

In case you missed it, Matt Damon is starring in another spacefaring film by a modern legend of filmmaking. This time, it’s The Martian, directed by Ridley Scott and based on the bestselling 2011 novel by Andy Weir. In the film, Damon, playing astronaut  Mark Watney, becomes stranded on Mars after an emergency evacuation results in him being left behind, presumed dead. He is forced to learn how to survive on the harsh planet while trying to contact NASA for help. Check out the trailer below:

I, for one, am pretty stoked. It’s great to see sci-fi of this sort making a resurgence in pop culture, and it should be great to see where this whole adventure is leading us. While Ridley Scott's last few movies have been shaky at best, this is till the man who brought us Blade Runner and Alien, and now that he’s got a great writer behind him — Drew Goddard, writer of many episodes of Buffy, Angel, Alias, Lost and Daredevil, as well as being the director/co-writer of The Cabin in the Woods — this could be his chance to really come back into the game swinging.
The Martian is also bringing its A-game with a stellar cast. Aside from Damon in the lead role, the film also features a supporting cast with Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, Steve Jobs), Michael Peña (End of Watch, Cesar Chavez), Kate Mara (127 Hours, Fantastic Four), Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Goldeneye), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Serenity), plus dramatic turns from traditionally-comedic actors Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) and Donald Glover (Community).
