Not that it was ever truly a question to begin with, but for word has been out for awhile that 20th Century Fox plans to make another “Die Hard” installment. It even snagged a director in Noam Murro (Smart People) this past June, but the project has hit a snag in that department.
Murro has since taken up responsibility for Legendary Pictures' 300: Battle of Artemisia, the prequel to Zack Snyder’s shocker hit. Presumably, these projects are moving into production around the same timeline, hency why Murro could only do one.
Almost as quickly as that was announced, Deadline reports that Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Justin Lin (Fast Five) and John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines) are in the running for the gig.
Moore has worked with Fox for all his films and a recent report went as far as mentioning he'd already nabbed the gig, so he seems to be a frontrunner, though Cornish and Refn are rising names. As for Lin, he's got the sixth "Fast & Furious" film on his plate and has also been linked to the next potential "Terminator" film.
As for the details on "Die Hard 5," it will reportedly take place on an international scale. Twitch learns that much of it is set in Russia, as protagonist John McClane and his son have to confront “local forces” during their time in the country.
