Earthbound Out Now on Wii U’s Virtual Console

One of the most beloved SNES classics is finally out on the Wii U's Virtual Console. After being requested to be a downloadable title since the Wii's launch, Earthbound is here and costs only $10. Known in Japan as Mother 2, Earthbound was one of Nintendo's best RPGs on the SNES and had a loyal fanbase since its original release. The game unfortunately didn't perform well sales-wise at the US back in 1995 and later games were released only at Japan. After numerous years of waiting, Earthbound is finally re-released on the US and for the first time at Europe.

The cult classic was one of the trippier RPGs at the time compared to Final Fantasy XI and Chrono Trigger. It also said a good sense of humor and pop culture references. In honor of the game's re-release on the Wii U, Nintendo also re-released the game's strategy guide online for those who are stuck and others playing it the first time to see why the game is so beloved with fans.

Earthbound is now out on the Wii U's Virtual Console for $10, $2 more than what SNES games cost on the service, but considering how much the game goes for on eBay these days, the price is good enough. Assuming this re-release is successful from a sales perspective, will we see Nintendo returning to the franchise for a new entry? Let us know in the comments below.
