Eddie Redmayne Cast in ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-Off

It seems as if those behind the Harry Potter film series are intent on keeping the tradition alive of working with some of the top British actors around. Word here in the Muggle world is that the recently crowned Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Newt Scamander in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, to be released by Warner Bros. Why is this important? Who is this Newt Scamander? Well, he is known in the Potter-verse as the magizoologist who travelled the world finding the most unique magical creatures around. He then wrote a book detailing his adventures, which if you're a Potter-head, you know it ultimately becomes one of the seminal textbooks that Harry and his friends use at Hogwarts. eddie_redmayne Thanks to The Wrap, we know that David Yates, director of the last four films of the Harry Potter series, will be at the helm of Fantastic Beasts, which will reportedly be the first in a new trilogy. Yates will be working from a script from the mother of the Wizarding world herself Ms. J.K. Rowling, who will make her screenwriting debut with this film. Yates isn't the only returning player from the original series who'll take part in the new spinoff series either. He'll be joined by producer behind all eight Potter films David Heyman, Steve Kloves, who wrote for the films and Lionel Wigram who for the final four films of the series, served as executive producer. This should be an interesting situation for all the Potter fans out there. What say you? Excited? Not? No doubt Redmayne is a talented actor. It should definitely be a treat to see what he brings to the table. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is slated for worldwide release on November 18, 2016.
