Turn off the Lights

Eric Bana could play Abraham Lincoln … the vampire hunter

Seems that if you want a shot at playing Abraham Lincoln in Hollywood, you’ve got to be from another country. First Irish Liam Neeson was tapped for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln biopic, but dropped out. Then, British Daniel Day-Lewis replaced him to play the 16th President. It could now be Eric Bana's turn.

TheWrap is reporting that the Australian is being courted to play Lincoln in another Lincoln-centered project: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter based on the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith. Grahame-Smith adapted the screenplay, which was just recently featured on the 2010 Black List (and that’s a good thing).

Bearing in mind he is far from a lock, it is being reported that Bana will be meeting with director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) to discuss the role further. If cast, Bana would be playing Lincoln in his earlier days: a budding politician by day and a vampire hunter by night, on a mission to find the vampire who killed his mother when he was a child.

Tim Burton is attached to produce the film, set for a release date of June 22, 2012. They’ve still got time on their hands, but best to get the ball rolling soon, especially if this will be an action epic.
