First Official Images from ‘Les Miserables’ Emerge

When Tom Hooper agreed to helm Les Misérables for Universal, it was a leap of faith. Famous for directing Best Picture winner The King’s Speech, Hooper had never done a large-scale production, but these first images show little cause for concern thus far.

USA Today recently unveiled nine official stills from Les Misérables, and they are absolutely gorgeous. In the lot, we get to see more of Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in action as rivals Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert. Additionally, we’re get to see the first official stills of Samantha Barks as street urchin Éponine, Anne Hathaway as the prostitute Fantine, Eddie Redmayne as the student Marius, and Amanda Seyfried as the gorgeous Cosette.

The images of Hathaway and Barks are particularly striking. Can’t you just imagine them singing “I Dreamed a Dream” and “On My Own” by looking at them? Unfortunately, we don’t see any images of Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as Madame and Monsieur Thénardier.

If nothing else, the film will be a gorgeous sight to behold. Undoubtedly having Oscar on its mind, Universal will release Les Misérables on Dec. 14. Check out the newly revealed images below.
