Four Actresses shortlisted to play the young Hillary Clinton

There have been many political bio-pics and one of them in production is Rodham about the early career Hillary Clinton. The production is in full swing and it has narrowed down its search for a leading lady to four actresses.

Reported in The Sunday Times (via The Independent) the actresses vying for the role are Jessica Chastain, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried. Set to be helmed by Smashed director James Ponsoldt is quoted saying “They’re all wonderful actresses. We’re very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We’re in an enviable position.”

Rodham
is based on a script by South Korean writer Young il-Kim which was placed on the 2012 “Black List” of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood. Rodham is set in 1974 where Hillary Clinton (then Hillary Rodham) is a 26-year-old lawyer working for the House Judiciary Committee during the height of the Watergate Scandal and President Nixon’s impeachment.

Clinton is a divisive figure in the United States but there is no denying her importance in politics and she did become one of the most powerful women in the world. Rodham sounds like a solid Oscar contender, especially with the credible of actresses wanting the lead role.
