Fox acquires rights to Millar’s “Nemesis”

With the film adaptation of his comic Kick Ass further building on his already sizable cult following, Mark Millar (Wanted, Civil War) now seeks to continue this trend; 20th Century Fox has acquired the film rights to his 2010 comic Nemesis and director Tony Scott is attached.

Nemesis tells the story of Matt Anderson, one of the richest men in the world with a superior intellect matched only by his physical prowess. Bent on avenging the death of his parents, Anderson seeks out the man responsible for his parents capture; an FBI agent named Blake Morrow.

If you think this all sounds familiar, you would not be alone. Rich and powerful? Parental issues? Sounds like a case of “Batman” syndrome.

Here's the kicker. Anderson's beloved parents were among the top criminals of their time. The same can be said for Anderson, taking on the Nemesis persona to travel the world, killing top officials and policemen.

Fox has already secured a director with Scott (Man on Fire, Deja Vu) and Scott's production company, Scott Free Productions, is set to produce and already looking for a writer.

Now comes the waiting game while Fox and Scott sit down and talk casting, not to mention debate what a script for Nemesis would look like. Needless to say, being a murderous vigilante hell-bent on revenge is not likely to produce a PG finished project.

Nemesis could go either way given Scott's casting tendencies; the likes of Denzel Washington (Man on Fire, Book of Eli), Micky Rourke (The Wrestler, Iron Man 2) and Chris Pine (Star Trek, Unstoppable) could give the project some high profile juice going into production. Scott is not one to attach unknowns to his films. Not that this would be a bad thing as Nemesis isn't exactly a household name, yet.
