“Ghostbusters 3” could still happen, says Aykroyd

First it was there and then it wasn't (ghosts, anyone?). Now, despite Bill Murray going on record and saying the proposed sequel in the “Ghostbusters” series was not moving forward (for the time), Dan Aykroyd has told WGN Radio Chicago not only is the project on (as many expected), but that casting is moving forward, looking at “some fresh faces.” Anna Faris and Bill Hader are the two prominent names being sought after.

News on the long put off sequel is rough for fans of the series. Many rumors about the project have been making the rounds over the past year, with main star Murray consistently saying it wasn't happening; his appearance at this year's Scream Awards in full Ghostbusters attire making many question if Murray has been putting the public off.

Ivan Reitman, director of the first two films and father to Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air), has stated he would return for the sequel and Aykroyd has gone on record that he and costar Harold Ramis have written a script (though nobody outside of Hollywood knows if a physical copy exists). While the prospect of a sequel with all original powers that made the first two classics is enticing to many fans of the series, the lack of consistency in pre-production leaves something to be desired. That and sequels to films made some years back do not mean the project will come out any good (“Crystal Skull” anyone?).
