‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ find two new recruits

Last week Guardians of the Galaxy has been making speedy progress with Glenn Close and John C. Reilly being linked to roles for Marvel’s Space Opera. Now two more high profile actors have been attached to the movie, Benico Del Toro and Karen Gillan.

Deadline exclusively reported Del Toro has been offered a leading role in the movie. There is no word yet whether he was offer a heroic or villainous role but he has been offer a role with an option to appear in multiple movies like Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.  Whoever he plays it is a massive coup for Guardians of the Galaxy to have another high-profile actor cast. Early speculation is he is set to play the main villain Thanos, an almighty intergalactic tyrant. Del Toro was offered the lead villain role in Star Trek Into Darkness and his next movie is the French/American drama Jimmy P.

The Hollywood Reporter
reported Karen Gillan has been casted as the lead female villain. Gillian is no stranger to sci-fi having played Amy Pond in Doctor Who and in my personal opinion the best companion the Doctor has ever had. Her other acting credits include the BBC TV Movie We Take Manhattan and the upcoming releases of Not Another Happy Ending and Oculus.

Guardians of the Galaxy is certainly shaping up to be an ensemble piece with the likes of Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) and Dave Bautista (The Man With the Iron Fists) already been casted. Super’s James Gunn is in the director’s chair. Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be release on 1 August 2014.
