Hardy offered role in “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”

The powers that be in Hollywood can't get enough of Tom Hardy these days and honestly, who can blame them (have you seen the guy?)? Bloody Disgusting is now adding more fuel to Hardy's fire, reporting he has been offered the role of Henry Sturges in Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, based on Seth Grahame-Smith's book of the same name (Smith adapting his own book for the screen).

In “Hunter,” Sturges himself is a vampire. The trick is that Sturges acts as a mentor to Lincoln, helping him to train and prepare Lincoln to kill the vampires who killed his mother when he was young. Given the source material comes from the same man who wrote (and is also adapting) Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, one of the hottest projects in development we might add, it's best to take the synopsis of “Hunter” with a grain of humor.

This could be a fun change of pace for Hardy. In recent years, he is best known to audiences for his turn in Inception as an appearance shifting member of Leonardo DiCaprio's team. However, those who look at his earlier work know his background lies in thoroughly darker fare, such as his remarkable (and strong word of mouth) turn in Bronson. With the recent news he has been cast in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises and still being attached to star in the delayed Mad Max: Fury Road, it's safe to say Hardy will remain in darker films for a time. If he takes the role in “Hunter,” here's hoping he at least gets to have a good time while he's there.
