“Hunger Games” Zeroes In on Casting for Male Leads

Alex Pettyfer recently emerged as a candidate to star in The Hunger Games alongside Jennifer Lawrence as the male lead, Peeta Melark. However, the most recent shortlist for the character doesn't have him anywhere on it. Josh Hutcherson, Hunter Parrish, and Lucas Till are the three most buzzed-about in the mix along with Alexander Ludwig (Race to Witch Mountain) and Evan Peters (Kick-Ass), according to Cinematical.

There’s also the potential love interest, Gale, who doesn't fully come into play until the second and third installments of the trilogy. Robbie Amell (TV’s True Jackson, VP), David Henrie (TV’s Wizards of Waverly Place), Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), Drew Roy (Secretariat), and potentially more actors are all up for this part.

In regards to casting Peeta, I think Parrish probably has that part. He’s been on the verge of a breakthrough for quite a while and has already ventured some into the world of film with titles like It’s Complicated. Additionally, he’d be a more age-appropriate fit for Lawrence than Hutcherson and Till.

As far as Gale is concerned, I wouldn’t be completely surprised to see Hemsworth get the role. Though I’m not completely sold on him as an actor, he’s easily the most high-profile of the listed contenders. On the other hand, I can’t imagine him being able to keep up with Lawrence on the acting front, so maybe one of the other actors might nab the role.

Who do you think should play Peeta and Gale?
