J.K. Simmons has been having a great 2014. He has received universal acclaim for his galvanizing performance in Whiplash, as the intense music teacher trying to pull greatness from a student, played by Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now). He also just recently picked up best supporting actor nominations from SAG and the Golden Globes for his turn in the Damien Chazelle-directed feature.
Now, it looks as though Simmons has landed a high-profile role.
According to Deadline,Simmons has been set to join Tom Hiddleston in Kong: Skull Island, the Legendary Pictures tent-pole that Universal Pictures has set for March 10, 2017 release. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein that focuses on the wild island home of the iconic ape King Kong.
Awards prognosticators predict that Simmons will land a coveted spot for an Oscar nomination, when they are announced in January. It appears we will be seeing Simmons on many red carpets in the next few months.
