Apparently, there is no such thing as too many casting updates for director Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass) and X-Men: First Class. Coming of the casting buzz of Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne) and Azazel (Jason Flemyng), Deadline now reports that psychic mutant Emma Frost, previously reported to be played by Alice Eve, will now be played by Mad Men alum January Jones.
Several news outlets believed Eve to be a lock for the role of Frost, an iconic beauty of comics with psychic abilities as well as the capability to turn her skin to diamond. However, it appears that Eve was unable to secure a shooting schedule between “First Class” and other projects, opening the way for Jones to step in.
It’s good news for Jones. Currently in its fourth season, Mad Men is fantastic but won’t last forever. Furthermore, if Jones wants to have any kind of career after the show’s run, she’s got to start taking baby steps to being recognized as someone other than Betty Draper.
Frost is also a good choice seeing as few female heroes in comics possess the rabid fanbase/recognition as she does. That and she’s a cross-platform sex symbol, though if that’ll carry over to Vaugn’s “First Class” remains to be seen.
Not sure how many more casting pieces the public can take. Time to cast Cyclops and get to work, Mr. Vaughn.
