Justin Lin in talks to direct ‘Bourne 5’

With a worldwide gross of $1.2 Billion over four movies, Universal Pictures certainly does not want a successful franchise to die. Universal is seeking new blood for the Bourne series and it looks like they have a new director, Justin Lin.

Deadline had the exclusive regarding Lin being in talks with Universal regarding helming the fifth entry. Lin is best known for directing four of the six Fast and Furious movies, from The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift to Fast and Furious 6. His Fast and Furious movies have made a collective $1.9 billion for Universal, so Universal want to keep Lin on board. Lin has previously been attached to Terminator 5 and the Highlander reboot.

Lin's Fast and Furious movies have often been praised for their use of stunt work and use of practical effects, particularly Fast Five and Fast and Furious 6. He is seen as the man who saved the series from going into direct-to-DVD hell. The Bourne series too has been praised for stunning CGI and using stunts. But Fast and Furious is more outlandish action, while Bourne has a more grounded approach.

Jeremy Renner is set to respire his role as Aaron Cross and Anthony Peckham of Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Invictus is replacing Tony Gilroy on the scripting duties.
