Agent Carter already made moves to bolster the cast of Season 2 earlier this month, but Marvel Entertainment proved the show still has room for growth by announcing the addition of Kurtwood Smith on Thursday.
Smith (Robocop, That ‘70s Show) will be joining the show in a recurring capacity as Vernon Masters, “a veteran of the war department with a keen understanding of how to work the system.” The news doesn’t specify if he’ll be a boon or bane to Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, but the character description certainly makes it seem like he’ll provide some much needed assistance to Agent Carter in Season 2.
“We had the pleasure of working with Kurtwood on both Resurrection and Chaos, and were well aware of what a commanding presence he is,” said Executive Producers Tara Butters, Chris Dingess and Michele Fazekas in Marvel’s announcement of the news. “So when we were developing the character of Vernon Masters, we wrote it with him in mind. We just never thought we could actually get him. Thankfully, we were wrong.”
With this latest casting news, it’s even more surprising that we haven’t had word of Lyndsy Fonseca’s further involvement in the series. Based on a tweet she made last week, she hasn’t either.
Agent Carter will return for a 10 episode season in 2016.
