Major Don West Cast for Netflix’s Lost in Space Series

"Danger Ignacio! Danger Ignacio! Danger!"
Ignacio Serricchio has been cast as Major Don West in Netflix's re-imagining of Lost in Space, according to an exclusive report by Deadline this week. The remake of the classic 1960s sci-fi series will premiere on the streaming service in 2018. The original Lost in Space aired for 83 episodes from 1965 to 1968. It was created by television legend Irwin Allen for CBS. Much campier than Star Trek, which aired as a competing show on NBC, Lost in Space followed the adventures of the Robinson family - lost in space during a colonization mission from Earth to Alpha Centauri aboard their space saucer the Jupiter 2. lost-in-space-53bb508162b3a Ignacio Serricchio's character, Don West, is a bit different from the original character played by Marc Goddard. Serricchio's West will be more of a roughneck mercenary while the original Major Don West was a stern, no-nonsense military pilot. Serricchio is best known for his recurring roles as Dr. Fuentes on Bones,  and as Miguel Maldonado on the series Zoe Ever After. ignacio-serricchio-bones In addition to Serricchio, Toby Stephens and Molly Parker will play the adult Robinsons, John and Maureen.  Taylor Russell, Maxwell Jenkins, and Mina Sundwall have been cast as the Robinson children, Judy, Will, and Penny. In a somewhat surprise move, Parker Posey has been cast as a female version of Dr. Smith - the original series' main antagonist, and perhaps one of the most well-known 'frenemies' in television history. The role was originated on the first series by weekly "special guest star" Jonathan Harris. The new Lost in Space will be ten episodes in length and written by Dracula Untold's Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, with Zack Estrin (Charmed, Prison Break) serving as showrunner. No official announcements have yet been made about a production timeline, a specific release date, additional series details, or other casting decisions at this writing. Most importantly for fans of the original series, there has been no announcement yet on who will play series hero, Robot.
