Matt Letscher Will Return as Reverse-Flash on The Flash

"A warm up for Zoom?"
According to Entertainment Weekly, Matt Letscher will be making another appearance on The Flash as Eobard Thawne – AKA the big bad of Season 1, the Reverse-Flash. But how is Barry’s nemesis able to return at all? Those who watched the Season 1 finale will remember that Eddie Thawne shot himself to erase his descendent from history (reverting him from his Harrison Wells guise to his original appearance), and even Executive Producer (and writer of "The Reverse-Flash Returns") Todd Helbing commented that his return is “impossible” in his brief description of the episode: “[Reverse-Flash’s] impossible return to Central City puts a member of the S.T.A.R. Labs team in unexpected danger, forcing Barry to make a life-changing decision.” [caption id="attachment_78550" align="aligncenter" width="600"]The Flash, Reverse-Flash - The Flash I'm happy it looks like we'll be getting the Eobard who had this fight with Barry Allen, and not just another Earth-2 counterpart. (Image via justmytwodinars.tumblr.com.)[/caption] The impact of Reverse-Flash’s return certainly seems worthy of the character, but I can’t imagine him sticking around for very long. The showrunners wouldn’t want to overshadow Zoom with another nefarious speedster, but Zoom defeating Reverse-Flash without breaking a sweat would be a great way of reminding viewers of the threat he poses. In general, though, I’m not a fan of the way the show keeps adding once, present, and future speedsters to the roster. Super speed is one of the only ways the show has been able to present legitimate and compelling threats to Barry Allen (naturally), but it’s starting to get kind of cheap. In addition, given the unnecessary dramatic mistrust that accompanied the Harrison Wells of Earth-2 presenting himself to Team Flash, I’m not looking forward to how they react to the actual murderer of Nora Allen (if that is indeed who he is...).
