Recent rumors of a new Mechwarrior game were confirmed today with the announcement of Mechwarrior Online. With the announcement of the game's existence came a ton of details on what this new entry in the venerable mech-sim franchise will offer to fans who have been waiting years for a new installment in the series.
The game itself is confirmed to have a massive array of customizable mechs available to players, team based gameplay, urban combat and some form of "information warfare". Mechwarrior Online has also been confirmed as a "free to play" title, although the developers Piranha Games have been quick to say that the game won't be "pay to win".
It's clear that Piranha Games are keen to get old school Mechwarrior fans interested, they aim to fix issues that the previous games have had, and the head of Piranha Games told PC Gamer that "It's fully first-person. It's not a new interpretation. We're modernizing things a little bit, I think we'll get to those questions, but certainly it's Mechwarrior."
