Netflix Announces Newest Series

Netflix, the streaming site that struck gold in 2013 with the launch of its first spate of original programming, has announced the latest series set to begin streaming in 2015.

Entitled Narcos, the 10 episode season will be a serialized take on the story of Pablo Escobar, the notorious Colombian drug lord of the 1970s and 80s. The series will be helmed by Jose Padilha and will star Brazilian actor Wagner Moura  in the title role of Escobar. The series plans to look at the origins of the US and European cocaine problem, focusing on how Escobar created his drug empire and gained notoriety and influence throughout the world. Netflix has stated that this will be a take on the Escobar story unlike any ever seen previously.

Narcos is the third series announced for Netflix’s 2015 season. It will join the previously announced comedy Grace and Frankie, which will star legends Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, as well as the previously announced third season of Netflix’s hit series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Netflix’s other massive hit, Orange is the New Black, will premiere it’s second season June 6th, 2014. It has not been announced whether the series will return in 2015, but considering its mass appeal, that seems quite likely.
