American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has revealed new details about the next season of the show. Though it had previously been announced that the FX drama’s second outing would feature a new cast of characters and would take place in a new location, we now have some specifics about what is going to be seen.
“It’s a completely different world and has nothing to do with season one,” Murphy explained at a TV Academy panel in North Hollywood. “There’s not a mention of season one. The second season is set in a completely different time period.”
“[Season two] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica (Jessica Lange, who played Constance in season one),” Murphy revealed. The showrunner also hinted that more stars from the first season could also reappear, but in radically different roles. “There will be other people… who are not announced who will also be in it, but are playing the polar opposite of what they were in the first season,” he said.
Thus far Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe have all been confirmed to return to American Horror Story when the series returns to FX in late 2012.
