New Doctor Who Companion Revealed

Completing the latest change in the Tardis, the BBC revealed today that Pearl Mackie will be stepping into the shoes vacated by Jenna Coleman in the show's most recent Christmas special. Coleman left the series to explore additional opportunities (up first, the mini-series Victoria, about the reign of Queen Victoria) after three seasons in the role of companion Clara Oswald. Mackie's initial interaction with the Doctor (currently portrayed by Peter Capaldi) were shown during today's FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United, and was later released through the BBC and BBC America Twitter accounts. Little is known about Mackie's character, other than her name (Bill) and that she doesn't seem to be terribly impressed or frightened by the Dalek attack happening all around her. Check out the first look at Pearl Mackie's Bill below. She and the Doctor will grace our screens in 2017 when the series returns for its 10th post-revival season- which will also be the final season with showrunner Steven Moffat at the helm.
