New Thriller “Helix” Ordered by Syfy

Syfy announced that the new drama Helix is bypassing the pilot stage and getting a straight-to-series order. Executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, developer of Battlestar Galactica and co-creator of Syfy prequel series Caprica, and with the pilot written by Cameron Porsandeh, the 13-episode series follows a team of scientists from the Centers of Disease Control as they travel to an Artic research facility to investigate a potential disease outbreak. They’re faced with the life-and-death struggle of saving mankind from total annihilation.

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill ride of a series come to life,” said Mark Stern, Syfy president of original content and co-head of original content at cable arm Universal Cable Productions in a press release.

Aiming for a debut later this year, casting and production for the series is expected to start soon.
