News From NY Comic Con: Warhammer Movie and New Game

The Games Workshop is the company behind the tabletop games Warhammer, and Warhammer 40k.  This franchise is so popular that no table can hold it, and it has branched out into video games, novels, and a feature film.  It was also adapted into a series of comic books, but at this years New York Comic Con, the focus was on the upcoming Ultramarines movie and the latest video game adaptation, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine.

There have been many video game adaptations of Warhammer, from the forgettable shooter Fire Warrior to the spectacular Dawn of War strategy series. Unfortunately, there was very little tangible information to be found about the new Space Marine game. At present, all that is know about the Space Marine game is that is will be a squad-based action RPG developed by Relic, published by THQ in 2011 for PC XBox 360 and PS3.

The THQ booth still had an awesome spectacle to hold convention-goers attention; every hour or so a pair of seven-foot tall costumed performers in full Space Marine armour and an Ork suit came out for photo ops with the crowd.  It was no substitute for hands on play with the game, but definitely went a long way to raising brand awareness for the 2011 release.
The other big news about Warhammer was a computer-animated feature film set in the Warhammer 40k universe.  Ultramarines follows Captain Severus (Voiced by Terrence Stamp) as he leads a squad of raw, untrained soldiers on a mission to the planet Mithron where they investigate the disappearance of a company of Space Marines.  It also features the voice work of John Hurt and Sean Pertwee, and is Directed by Martyn Pick.

Ultramarines goes on sale November 29th.  It’s currently available for pre-order from www.ultramarinesthemovie.com for $39.98.
