Nicholas Hoult Set to Star in J.D. Salinger Biopic

Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: First ClassWarm Bodies, and a rather baffling Jaguar commercial) has snagged the lead in a biopic about legendary author J.D. Salinger, titled Rebel in the Rye. Adapted from J.D. Salinger: A Life, a biography written by Kenneth Slawenski, the film will be written and directed by Danny Strong (The Hunger Games: MockingjayLee Daniels' The ButlerEmpire) in his directorial debut. According to Variety,
The movie will explore the life and mind of the secretive author and tell the story of the birth of “The Catcher in the Rye.” The story will explore his rebellious youth, his experiences on the bloody front lines of World War II, enduring great love and terrible loss, a life of rejection to the pages of the New Yorker and his writer’s block — which led to a spiritual awakening.
The film will be produced by Molly Smith, Trent and Thad Luckinbill, Bruce Cohen, Jason Shuman and Danny Strong, and is set to be presented to foreign buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from the 10th of September through the 20th.
