Nicolas Cage’s dual role in “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”

Directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, most famous for their films Crank and Crank: High Voltage, are working hard to ensure that the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be far better than its infamous 2007 predecessor. A recent tweet from Neveldine and Taylor’s Twitter account concerning “the dual role of blaze/zarathos” led some to believe that the film’s leading man Nicolas Cage would be playing both heroic and villainous roles. To clear up that rumor, here’s what Taylor had to say via Collider:

“zarathos is the spirit of vengeance that inhabits john blaze when he becomes ghost rider.  unlike the 1st movie, where the rider was stiffly acted out by a various stunt guys, nic will be playing all the ghost rider stuff himself – and we are creating a whole physical language for the demon that is different from the human blaze.”

Since this was one of the (many) major problems with the first film, it’s good to see that the filmmakers are taking care of it. In addition to Cage, the film will star Idris Elba, Ciaran Hinds, and Violante Placido. "Spirit of Vengeance" is scheduled for release on February 17, 2012.
