Organizations Agent Carter Can Use Instead of Hydra This Time

Agent Carter is returning this month, and since itĀ is a Marvel TV Show, there'll have to be some kind of evil organization doing some evil things. However, for timeline-related issues it can't be Hydra. Sigh, I know. I too love it when Hydra is used over and over and over and over and over. But don't worry, there are plenty of organizations to sit in for that old favorite. I don't mean the pre-established groups either. AIM? IGH? Inhumans? Oh gosh, heck no! I'm going to pull straight on the comics, groups we haven't seen yet. One's I feel will fit right into Carter's little corner of the universe. Also, SPOILERS for Agent Carter season one if you haven't seen it. So, you know, most of you. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="670"] Even in her time, no one watches her[/caption]

ULTIMATUM and Flag-Smasher

There are two reasons why we should see ULTIMATUM (Underground Liberated Totally Integrated Mobile Army To Unite Mankind). One, the group and its leader, Flag-Smasher, were designed specifically as a Captain America villain, and two, they're goofy as all get out. Agent of Carter tried a whole bunch to gritty up their first season, but there is an inherent layer of camp. Just as a quick rundown, Flag-Smasher is a Swiss supervillain who has made it his mission to destroy all the world's nations. He then starts a kind of... I don't know, anti-SHIELD with ULTIMATUM and sets out to do just that. He's thwarted a bunch, runs up against Red Skull, and was then killed by Domino. Quite the resume. I think having a Flag-Smasher or Proto-Flag-Smasher in Agent Carter would be a good fit. His anti-nationalist theme would run great with the ultra-nationalist time period, so throwing him back in time wouldn't be too jarring. Plus, I bet there'd be some great wise cracks about his name! It's pretty dumb! [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="391"] And he looks like an evil Space Ghost![/caption]

Maggia

Crime! Conventional crime! So perhaps Maggia won't be the biggest threat Carter and the young SHIELD would face. They aren't dedicated to destroying America, or freedom, or individuality, or even Canada. Sweet, innocent Canada. They're just an international super mafia. Agent Carter seems to be trying to toe the line between big, international espionage and more grounded plots. I thinkĀ  Maggia could help with that. Instead of another terrorist plot, again, Carter and friends could try and solve a gigantic criminal scheme to do... crime. They could even make up new leaders for Maggia since it's in the past (and the well known ones are mostly Spider-Man villains). TV Marvel seems to love to do that instead of drawing from the comics, so I assume that's a big plus. Also, with the time period, I mean, that's prime Mafia time. Goodfellas meets SHIELD! [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="360"] Organized crime! Yeah![/caption] ROXXON Evil corporations, that's pretty good. I mean, it doesn't fit in with the time period that well, but maybe it could serve as some kind of critique on today's world. An edgy, heavy handed critique. I'm not sure what exactly their plot would be Carter would need to thwart, but I don't sit in the writer's room. In the comics, Roxxon is a super powerful energy company with its fingers in all sorts of crazy pies. From trying to destroy Asgard to paying off governments. Probably. They've run the gamut from a regular ol' ethically questionable company to campy floating-sky-factory madness. As far as it goes, Roxxon would be open ended. Which probably means that Roxxon would be controlled by some shadowy evil organization. In any case, dealing with a super powerful company with close ties to the government would be right up Agent Carter's alley. Because it's super familiar? I'll never tell. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="499"] Also, one of its C.E.O.s was a minotaur[/caption] So those are my suggestions for the future of Agent Carter. If I missed something please let me know in the comments below. Hopefully we'll see these sometime in one form or another, but more likely they'll just fight "Hydra-lite" Leviathan again.
