Fresh off the news that production was underway for the next “Silent Hill” film, Davis Films has announced that stars of the first film—Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger—are set to reprise their respective roles of Rose Da Silva, Christopher Da Silva and Dahlia Gillespe. Bloody Disgusting had previously reported Bean’s involvement in the sequel, but singled him out to play Harry Mason, father of lead character Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens). On top of the casting news, another picture from the production has been released, featuring first film protagonist Rose crossing paths with Heather.
While no official synopsis has been released by the studio, the one making the rounds online is as follows:
“Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.”
Silent Hill was a relatively quiet affair in filmmaking standards. Its budget was a relatively low $50 million and its worldwide take was close to $100 million, justifying a sequel in a studio's eyes (typically a film needs to make double its budget to be considered a success). Then, the screenwriter of the first film, Roger Avary, was arrested and sent to jail and the burgeoning series went quiet for nearly five years.
Now, with an enthusiastic director in Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) and a script that borrows heavily from what is considered to be the best in the “Silent Hill” series, perhaps there is hope that Silent Hill: Revelation 3D can turn this series into a full-fledged franchise, at least from a monetary standpoint. Maybe future incarnations could attract some bigger names (but we won’t hold our breath for now).
