‘Pan Am’s’ Margot Robbie to star opposite Will Smith

The crime drama Focus has been having a troubled production finding actors star in a movie about a veteran grafter teaching an attractive young woman the tricks of the trade and end up becoming romantically involved. Will Smith is attached and now he has a leading lady, Australian actress Margot Robbie.

Variety has broken the news that Robbie has joined Focus and she is seen as an up-and-coming actress in Hollywood. British and Australian audiences will know her best as the troubled teen Donna Freedman in the Australian soap Neighbours, a show that has produced the likes of Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue and Russell Crowe. She also starred in the ABC drama Pan Am as Laura Cameron before it was cancelled. She is set to appear in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street and Richard Curtis’ next rom-com About Time.

Focus
is set to be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa whose big credits include Crazy, Stupid, Love and I Love You Phillip Morris and were the writers of Bad Santa. Focus was originally set to be a vehicle for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone before dropping out due to scheduling conflicts. Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart were also attached to the project before Smith and now Robbie have taken the lead roles.

There is no word yet about the release date for Focus.
