Halloween Weekend Sales

Now that Halloween Weekend is here, all of the major online game stores have unveiled their big scary sales.  New for the weekend is Good Old Games (GoG.com) who have put up a half a dozen scary games which include all three Gabriel Knight games from that classic adventure series.  Also of note are the Phantasmagoria games which were made during the FMV fad of the nineties; that means they use digital footage of human actors, rather than animated characters.  Either franchise is a worthy investment, and you can grab six scary games as a lot for $23.94, or buy any of them at 20% off for $4.79.

Dust Collectors: Fallout New Vegas

Welcome to Dust Collectors, Player Affinity’s new feature where we investigate whether the Collector’s Edition of a new game or DVD is really worth the extra money, or if you’re just buying some cheap plastic crap that will be gathering dust.  This time we’re taking a look at the bonus materials that come with the Fallout: New Vegas Collector’s Edition.  For an extra twenty dollars you’ll get a hardcover Fallout comic book, a deck of playing cards, a stack of poker chips and of course, the obligatory “Making of” DVD.   Is all of this worth the “Caps” as they say in the Fallout Wasteland?

Champions Online Will Become Free To Play

It’s been a little over a year since the superhero MMORPG Champions Online appeared to tepid reviews and limited consumer interest. There have been several free updates to the game during the last year that have improved gameplay substantially, and developer Cryptic Studios have made the game available for trial in a variety of ways, including a time-limited trial on Steam, and the current system in which players have unlimited play-time in a very restricted demo zone.  It was announced today that they will switch to a free-to-play model in early 2011, with a closed beta starting November 9th.
