Penguin Young Readers and Archie Comics Team Up

On October 8th 2010, during a panel discussion, Rob Valois (author and editor) announced a partnership between Archie Comics and Penguin Young Readers to start up a new series of books based upon the lives of comic characters Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead.

The middle grade novels will be aimed at children between the ages of 7 to 10. The new series is expected to be launched in early 2011. The expansion of these characters into a new type of medium is hoped to introduce them to a wide range of new readers, as well as appealing to already established fans and collectors.

"We at Archie Comics are very excited to be expanding Archie's presence among young readers through new mediums with Grosset & Dunlap as a part of Penguin Young Readers Group," said Jon Goldwater, Co-CEO of Archie Comics.

This is the third largest movement done with the "Archie-Verse" characters. Recently, the Archie Comics Company released the "Archie Comics App", one of the most successful comic reader apps on iTunes. In August 2010, "Life With Archie" was released, a magazine following Archie and his married lives with Betty and Veronica.

Grosset & Dunlap are an imprint of Penguin Young Readers.

Penguin is a publishing company with novels aimed at both children and adults.

Archie Comics was founded in 1939, mostly known for stories involving the aforementioned teenagers, but also having comics featuring "Sonic The Hedgehog" and "Sabrina The Teenage Witch".
