Rage to Be Powered by id Tech 5

Rage, set to release in October, will be the first game powered by the brand new graphics engine called id Tech 5.  If you've seen any of the trailers you know this game looks spectacular.  The engine has been designed to run Rage at 60 FPS and optimized to perform well across all platforms.  The engine is very impressive as id Software's goal was to create unique landscapes with amazing textures.  The new MegaTexturing technology allows for larger textures to be used so that artists don't have to rely on tricks to cover up the repetition of using smaller textures for broad landscapes.  If you haven't been following Rage, allow me to bring you up to speed.

Like Bethesda's Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, Rage takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting with an asteroid crashing into Earth.  In planning for the event, the government took humanity's best and brightest along with the best technology and placed them in arks for safe keeping.  Well, not surprisingly, everything didn't go as planned.  Your character, the sole survivor of his ark, is woken up from cryo and discovers the wasteland is a dangerous place to be.  The writing probably won't win any awards but if the gameplay is as amazing as the game looks and promises, this game should be solid and turn into a time-suck worthy of Bethesda and id's best efforts.
