Iron Man 4 While in Toronto for the TIFF release of his new feature, The Judge, Robert Downey Jr was roped into talking about Iron Man. When approached about the likelihood of a fourth installment, the actor told Variety:
"There isn't one in the pipe... No, there's no plan for a fourth Iron Man"
Downey Jr. has already signed on to play the billionaire superhero in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as in the next in the Avengers series bowing in 2018. While he has been reluctant to commit to any further portrayals of the famed super hero (2018 will mark ten years with an RDJ Iron Man), Downey Jr laughed off the idea of being a deciding force behind transferring the role to another actor. Although advised against giving up Tony Stark by his The Judge co-star, Robert Duvall, Downey Jr acknowledged that it was not his place to decide a successor. Iron Man 4 Marvel is keeping busy with four named films set to debut before 2018. Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant Man are both slated for 2015, while Captain America 3 and the recently announced Dr. Strange are both scheduled for 2016 release dates. Marvel has also secured several release dates with the titles of which remaining a mystery. May 5, July 27 and November 3, proves 2017 to be a big year for Marvel with three releases (likely Thor 3Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and perhaps Black Panther or Nova). Marvel also have dates lined up in 2018 with releases set for July 6 and November 2, and in 2019 with May 3 as the only tentative release date. While Marvel is certainly concentrating on releasing new adventures to expand their line of films, they will also be hard pressed to forget about the early adaptations. Although there are no current plans for an Iron Man 4, there definitely will be given the precedents set by other beloved franchises (Star Wars Episodes VII-IX ring any bells?)
