Robert Downey Jr. leaves Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity”

You read right: Robert Downey Jr. is no longer attached to the sci-fi epic Gravity, which if you've been reading Player Affinity at all, you know we've been following every step of the way. The official news comes from The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, which also reports on his possible involvement with How to Talk to Girls.

It’s unfortunate to say the least. I was personally looking forward to some great scenes between the talents of Bullock and Downey. However, I can’t say that his departure was a surprise. RDJ has so many other projects in the works right now, such as the sequel to Sherlock Holmes, which is currently being filmed and The Avengers. If you can't meet his schedule, you're going to lose him. Warner Bros. spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out who their leading lady would be when Angelina Jolie jumped ship. He was supposed to shoot his scenes this past summer in time to shoot the “Sherlock Holmes” sequel currently filming, but that couldn’t be done without a female lead.

At least Sandra Bullock is still set to star in the film.
