Welcome to Rumor Has It, Player Affinity’s weekly roundup of highly buzzed-about movie rumors circulating throughout Tinseltown. On this week’s docket, we have rumors about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Thor 2.
Robert Pattinson might star in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Before The Hunger Games became a movie and consequently a phenomenon, many referred to the property as “the next Twilight.” Aside from the late-teen and young-adult demographics to which the franchises play, though, they have almost nothing in common. However, that might change in the very near future if this rumor is true.
Think McFly Think caught wind of a rumor that Lionsgate wants Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson (aka Edward Cullen) to star alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the next film in the franchise. Pattinson would play past Hunger Games champion Finnick Odair. For those unfamiliar, here’s more on the character, via the source:
“Finnick was the one of the competition’s youngest champions, at fourteen, having won the 65th annual Hunger Games for District 4. By the time we get into Catching Fire, he’s in his mid-twenties and joins the Third Quarter Quell, a Hunger Games competition consisting of former winners. Described as quiet [sic] the ladies man, we’re not talking Edward Cullen.”
Additionally, this would mark Pattinson’s second collaboration with Francis Lawrence, as the two worked together on the period drama Water for Elephants. The actor just recently starred in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, which played In Competition at the recently wrapped Cannes Film Festival.
The Enchantress will most likely appear in Thor 2
With the recent casting of Mads Mikkelsen as one of the major villains in Thor 2, Marvel is quickly assembling all of the necessities for the superhero sequel. Apparently one such necessity might be snagging an actress to play The Enchantress. Bleeding Cool recently picked up some info about Thor 2 and says we should expect the antagonist to appear in the highly anticipated sequel.
Unfortunately, we have absolutely no idea about casting, but we might have a clue about the role that The Enchantress might play in the film:
“Which version of The Enchantress? Well… which version of Jane Foster did they use in the first Thor, eh?”
“The first Thor” likely refers to the film that hit theaters last year. In the film interpretation, Foster was an astrophysicist, the first time that she was envisioned in such a way. In that case we can expect a completely new interpretation of The Enchantress. Marvel will likely keep the character true to her comic roots, however, if “the first Thor” references the first comic interpretation of Foster. The Enchantress is known for trying to steal Thor from Foster.
