Rumor Has It: The Future of Nolan’s Take on Batman

Welcome to Rumor Has It, Player Affinity’s weekly roundup of highly buzzed-about movie rumors circulating throughout Tinseltown. On this week’s docket, we have some speculation regarding the potential future of Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe.

Is The Dark Knight Rises really the end for Nolan’s take on Batman?

Although Christopher Nolan himself doesn’t plan to keep directing films about the Caped Crusader, Warner Bros. will obviously make more Batman flicks in the future. However, it remains to be seen whether the studio will continue to develop Nolan’s universe or simply reboot the whole thing.

With The Amazing Spider-Man recently hitting theaters and Man of Steel arriving next year, the latter option seems more plausible and sensible. Even with “Rises” nicely wrapping up the trilogy, one or two characters in the film seem like they could make for terrific spinoffs. Anne Hathaway, for instance, said she’ll lead a film about her Selina Kyle “if it’s with the right people.”

However, fellow “Rises” stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman don’t see Nolan’s universe expanding any further. In the former’s own words, via MTV News:

"That's not for me to say. I think if you see the movie, it's very clear, it's conclusive and it's a great ending. It's not one of those movies that's just like, 'Well, we didn't quite know how to end it.' 'Cause those happen. They call it a trilogy, but it's not really a trilogy. It's just another movie to make more money. This is a trilogy, and this is the end of it."
