Showtime Boss Teases Penny Dreadful, The Affair, and Happy-ish Future

The first season of Penny Dreadful was a wonderful surprise and we cannot wait to see what is in store for the series’ future and Showtime president, David Nevins, is eager to share exciting details of the upcoming season. During the TCA press conference for the network Nevins teased that "it's a really big cosmology and it's gonna get bigger next year." He also shared that Helen McCrory, who appeared briefly as Madame Kali in the series will serve as an antagonist in the second season. Nevins also talked briefly on the tenuous future of the Philip Seymor Hoffman vehicle (of which they shot the pilot with the late actor and have five completed scripts) Happy-ish: "If I can cast it the right way, it's something I will probably make." The upcoming new series, The Affair, premieres October 19, and is an intense, Rashomon take on a romantic affair that profoundly affects two marriages. The series is written by playwright Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi and stars Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney, and Joshua Jackson. About the show’s style, Nevins comments, "There's a momentum, a lean-forward that you get from a good thriller." Watch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqvJSTNqNks
